I’m Chris Parker and I am a Wiradjuri man. My partners name is Samantha Parker and our beautiful son is Byron Parker, who is almost 4 years old. I never had my dad growing up, but I had some great Koori men in the community who were positive role models and were there to support me. This has influenced the way that I parent, I try to have a positive influence and connection with my son but also with my nieces and nephews. I love spending time with my son and wife Sam, I believe there is always things we can engage Byron in that help him grow strong in community and social connections. We love the libraries around Geelong, they have great things to entertain the kids and it is a free service. I love when I get to spend the one on one time with Byron, he will often come with me to football training and we can spend hours outside playing games.
My tip for other dads is to embrace fatherhood have fun, and never be afraid to ask for help, keep our young ones connected to culture/community
