Reconciliation in the Park was announced as winner of the Community HART Award for 2016 in the Community Organisation category. The Awards are supported by Reconciliation Victoria, Victorian Local Governance Association and Bank Australia, and aim to recognise councils and community organisations that are helping to achieve reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
The annual Reconciliation in the Park event, which is conducted by Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group and Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, focuses on building relationships between Aboriginal people and the wider community. This year’s Reconciliation in the Park event saw over 500 people attend and gained coverage in the Geelong Advertiser.
We would like to congratulate Uncle David Tournier, co-founder of Rec in the Park, community members Mick Ryan and Mel King and Geelong One Fire for their work on the event and well-deserved success in achieving this award.
