Survival Day Gathering

EVENT DATE: 26/01/2023

On January 26th 2023, Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative will be hosting a Community event to commemorate “Survival Day”, at 62 Morgan Street, North Geelong, supported by the City of Greater Geelong.

While January 26th is a day of mourning, it is also a day to mark the survival of ongoing traditions and cultures, and the strength & resilience of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.

Everyone is invited and welcome to attend this event, with Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative CEO Simon Flagg saying that this was a day that Australians could come together to learn about and respect Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander history.

“Survival Day for us is about acknowledging the real history of this country and the long-lasting effects of colonialism on Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. We are still here, and we are still strong in community, strong in culture, strong in country.”

The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Survival Day event will begin with a Welcome to Country at 9am at 62 Morgan Street, North Geelong.

This event is supported by the City of Greater Geelong, who will be providing breakfast and coffee for those in attendance. Please note that parking in the area is extremely limited, anyone attending the event is reminded not to park in areas that may block access for surrounding residences and businesses.
